WBAGI hosts ‘’Absolutely Gorgeous Shopping Event’’ on Saturday, 10 November

Tuesday, 30 October 2012:  Curridge, Berkshire:-

The campaign group, West Berkshire Against Grundon Incinerator (WBAGI), who oppose the proposed building of a waste incinerator by Grundon on a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) at Old Kiln Farm, near Newbury are hosting an ‘’Absolutely Gorgeous Shopping Event’’ which will take place at Chieveley Village Hall on Saturday, 10th November from 12 midday until 4pm.

There will be around 30 traders with an array of absolutely gorgeous offerings from top brands ranging from home interiors, fashion clothing, health and beauty, handbags, jewellery and general gifts to fine foods and wines – all traders will be offering something that is not generally available in the shops so providing something a little bit different and special for those tricky Christmas gifts that we all need to buy. So really something for everyone! Every visitor will also be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury hamper on the day. Tickets are available in advance at £2 each via Jo Conington on 01635 223 208 or on the door on the day at £3 each.

Simon Conington, Chair of WBAGI states: "Grundon have had their initial planning application for the waste incinerator at Old Kiln Farm near Newbury refused and have not appealed that decision within the 6 months time frame required.  However, they are quite within their rights to submit a new planning application, which could be a variation on the original waste incinerator application at Old Kiln Farm. WBAGI expects that this is very likely and therefore needs to be ready to respond swiftly and effectively as and when appropriate. We deeply doubt that a company like Grundon will admit defeat at the first refusal. We are also expecting to hear the result shortly of the recent Public Inquiry held by the Planning Inspectorate on the Grundon planning application to extend their existing quarrying at the Old Kiln Farm site."

Jo Conington organiser of the Absolutely Gorgeous Shopping Extravaganza states, "There will be a wonderful array of goods on sale from a selection of top brands that will be just perfect in solving everybody’s Christmas gift shopping.  I am really excited about the event. It will certainly be a not-to-be missed extravaganza with lots of absolutely gorgeous things to choose from. We will also be running a Christmas Gift List service at the event allowing anyone to create their very own ‘love to have’ list of items which could then be passed to their partner to consider purchasing as their perfect gift, in a completely hassle free, and relaxed environment. So gentlemen, do come along with your partner and save yourself from the pressures of that last minute Christmas gift panic whilst ensuring you get something your loved one truly desires!
Organising this event has been really rewarding but inevitably required a lot of hard work from volunteers across our community.  It is important people realise that the fight against Grundon is not fully over yet and WBAGI will not rest until Grundon have packed up and gone from Old Kiln Farm.’’

West Berkshire Against Grundon Incinerator (WBAGI) was formed in response to an initial scoping document submitted to West Berkshire Council by Grundon, ahead of the planning application to build an Energy from Waste incinerator in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Group consists entirely of local residents who share a common concern over the planning  proposal and want to ensure sufficient consideration is taken in the decision making process of such a significant facility.
