Incinerator Plans Rejected

Plans by waste company Grundon to build an incinerator in Chieveley have been rejected by West Berkshire Council.

The proposals had been for a plant which could process up to 250,000 tonnes of waste a year, creating enough energy to power around 30,000 homes, at the Old Kiln Quarry site.

The idea had been met with fierce opposition, with more than 2700 letters being sent to the Council during a consultation on the plans.

Newbury's MP, the Secretary of State for Transport, and Chieveley Parish Council were among the authorities speaking out against it.
