Victorious campaigners prepared for Chieveley incinerator appeal

REFUSED - The Grundon Incineration facility planning application is initially refused

The planning application for the Grundon Incinerator has been refused

Friday 13th April 2012

The West Berkshire planning department have confirmed that the planning application, reference number 11/02644/COMIND, submitted by Grundon to build an Incineration facility on AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) land has been refused. The planning department have been contacting members of the public who commented on the application confirming their decision.

BBC Berkshire - Highway Agency incinerator fears for M4 services

Plans for an incinerator in Berkshire should be abandoned over the strain it could put on a motorway service station, the Highways Agency has said.

Highways officials said they were concerned that site access for the plant at the Old Kiln Quarry would be via services on the M4 at Chieveley.

The agency has now written to West Berkshire Council objecting to the plans.

Campaigners against plans for an incinerator in Berkshire have accused the firm behind it of deliberately making it hard for people to respond.

Grundon wants to build the facility on the Old Kiln Quarry site beside the M4 motorway at Chieveley.

The West Berkshire Against Grundon Incinerator group says the application was submitted just before Christmas so that fewer people responded.

Plans for an incinerator in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Berkshire have been submitted to the council

Waste management firm Grundon wants to build the facility on the Old Kiln Quarry site beside the M4 motorway at Chieveley.

The company said the plant's capacity had been cut from 350,000 to 250,000 tonnes in response to local opposition.

The plans have been submitted to West Berkshire Council and a public consultation will follow.

Grundon Community Information Day – WBAGI's perspective

Grundon held their Community Information Day on Thursday 20th October to present their Newbury Incinerator proposals which are being developed for an imminent planning application. The layout of the event was not dissimilar to the Public Consultation event they held in the Curridge Village Hall in February 2011, with information boards on display and a range of technical documents available to read.
